I’m always checking out the sky. It seems like a lot of people never even look up. Yesterday afternoon.

Local honey: we live in Atlántida.

Local wine: 33 km (20.5 miles) away as the crow flies.
Almost all our produce, meat, and dairy come from within 200 km (124 miles). No 3,000-mile salads here!
When we arrived in Uruguay in 2009, we started buying the only yogurt that came in glass jars. After a couple years, they switched to plastic, but “nice” plastic – as in, clear and convenient to reuse.

Today I was removing labels and saw for the first time that they actually leave a space for you to label the contents when reusing their container – sweet! (Acá guardo = “Here I keep.”)

Nonetheless, I prefer them the labels removed, which requires only a couple minutes with an old kitchen scouring sponge, some turpentine, and cleaning up with dish detergent.
And yes, we do have a yogurt maker and do occasionally remember to use it 😉

Had to pick something at the local pharmacy. I found it so thoughtful that, at the checkouts, they give priority to people over 60 who are pregnant.

In front of Syd and Gundy’s house, low winter afternoon light.

That’s a pigeon it’s got for dinner, best I can tell. With all the raptors we have here, and all the easy targets, like pigeons, I’ve always expected to see an attack, but never have.

Dead Things on the Beach. A penguin. Near the dunes. I don’t have even the beginning of an explanation.

The sign at Tienda Inglesa (Street View pic from better days) had become very faded, so they brought in a huge crane and took it down.

That thing is big! And i can promise you this is a job I would not want to have anything to do with, ever. I hope I get to see them reinstalling it.

And Syd.
