We are enjoying Atlántida

"We are enjoying Atlántida" (Uruguay)

A friend mentioned this sign today, which I only saw for the first time last week. He assures me it’s been here at least four years.

The faceless girl’s bikini — at least the bottom — is very modest by Uruguay beach standards, and the faceless boy … well, how exactly does he balance on one foot like that?

  1. I don´t think that sign has been there since the summer of 2010-11. We have been to the tourist office several times with visitors who wanted information. I definitely recall it being there last year too, but not before that.

Anyway, like you, I wondered about that one-footed pose.

  2. Isn’t that a wall behind him? Maybe it hasn’t been differentiated from the beach colour enough… I think I discern some bricks on the top, which could be taken for part of the surf. #artistsdefenceleague

    1. Yes, either amateurish or extremely skillful. But the color of the girl’s elbow, which contrast might make it appear closer, actually has the opposite effect. I opt for the former. Instead of leaning the forward, the girl could have been leaning backward against the boy, which might have been clever.

And the “we’re from the government and we’re doing good” logos at the bottom only add to the tackiness.

Oh yeah, and setting it up outside the tourist office in town instead of near the beach, where a photographer might line up the horizon. Bleh — these things don’t warrant that much thought.
