Long, and mostly not terribly fascinating, though the landscape there – with mesas – provides a real contrast to most of the rest of the country. The guy I went with used to 'commute' to Tacuarembó, so knew every point of interest, including where a guy lived in a tent under a bridge (alas no more), and where to watch for speed traps 😉
