After an incredible harvest of avocados (paltas) during which on some days I felt, Shit, I have to eat avocado again, a season with zero – nada – zilch. But aha! Today for the first time i see evidence that we will have another harvest!

Dreary day for the beach, little nothing waves, but then turn to face the wind and realize you’re staring towards Antarctica.
Refreshing dreariness
One of those days where a clear sky signals progress, then the gray drear rolls in and all seems shit. Until you, somewhat grudgingly, take the dog to the beach, where you turn your face to the wind and take a deep breath and realize what you have just pulled into your lungs came from Antarctica, or somewhere in the South Atlantic, empty empty, and so much better for that.
A volunteer mushroom
Flipping back the lid to my little worm composting setup revealed a mushroom that had grown inside, upside down.
Avocados (paltas)?
We’ve gone a year with no avocados after having more from our two trees than we knew what to do with. Looks like they’re getting ready to go crazy again?
Mysterious dead bunny
In the past few years of walking dogs almost daily — six to eight of them — they have only caught (and of course killed) three rabbits, two of them young and obviously inexperienced. One of those little ones was just a few days ago. And we have seen many, many chases, some spectacular, some almost farcical. We’re always happy when the rabbits get away.
But what killed this little one today, no idea. We always know when there’s a chase, because the dogs yelp. Not a sound today, and no blood. Both baby rabbits the dogs caught previously were quickly torn to pieces.
So, another little mystery.
Awesome snake motion
Stepped out the back door to find this. Awesome the way snakes move!
Phone camera doesn’t catch it
Crossing the dunes at twilight, a distinct bright reflection to the east near Piriápolis, 45 km away.
