Lovely summer year-end day in Uruguay.

Past-prime mushroom fading back into a burned stump. The area we walk in suffered a serious fire ten years ago.
The dog Lea has an exceptional gift for stepping on anything we stop to look at on our dog walks. Happily, this time she misses.

Lemons: going bonkers as usual

Oranges: from fewer than a dozen to date, this looks like it may be the breakout year

Avocados: after a barren year, indications are we can again anticipate hundreds this season.

Palo borracho: tree-hugger’s nemesis

Unfortunately for Lea the Lizard Chasing Dog, it was already quite dead. Its tail broke off moments after taking this picture, an impressive escape move from something that isn’t even alive.



In ten years of documenting Dead Things on the Beach, I have never seen a mouse.

We’ve always, it seems, had garlic chives In this planter, which we largely ignored. Until this year. And now something else has decided to eat them. Ants? Other critters? No clues I can find as to what it may be.


Cutting the lawn today, I stopped the mower to take a picture of the flowers.

Then I heard the bees.

I’ll mow that another day.
