I didn’t even know what it was until a couple months ago when I asked online. They’re a little creepy at first, with all the teeth. Definitely prehistoric-looking.
I don’t know. I’ve seen them a few times over the years. We have water that changes from fresh to salt, but I wouldn’t think that would affect a dolphin that wandered in the wrong direction. Sea turtles occasionally wash ashore as well.
Where was the dolphin? There are salt water and fresh water dolphins, but I have not heard of fresh water dolphins except in the Amazon system (where there are grey ones and pink ones).
My usual little stretch of beach. When I asked on the FaceSpook Uruguay Expats group, someone ID’d another specimen as a river dolphin from the Rio de la Plata.
Awwww….I’ve always had a soft spot for Dolphins.
Breaks my heart. Poor thing. So beautiful. Never seen one in real life. Or even in real death.

Any idea why it died?
