Rare yellow turtle emerges from brown Uruguay surf

Semana de Turismo (or Semana Santa, or Pascua) gone, walk to the beach means socks and a jacket, and perhaps moving ‘firewood’ a notch higher on the to-do list. And having the beach to yourself. The waves are puny and brown, but almost iridescent with the blue they reflect from the sky, the sands blows crazy, and the channel cut by rainwater hosts mini-tsunamis. Here’s a (mercifully) short video clip, with lots of wind noise.

Always something.

  1. He is – for exactly one month more. He had a brief (weather was horrible this season ) summer gig as a beachside cook here, and realized how very difficult it would be to earn a living with Uruguay's laughable wages. So he's heading back to the land of the Untied Snakes to see what he can make happen there.

  2. Nice beach shots – down on Playa Brava here in Atlántida or up the coast a ways? Whistler the dog gets confused when that big inlet appears on “his” beach!

  3. No, right here. My almost-daily walk includes 3-4 drainage areas, and without waterproof boots sometimes uncrossable. Also, note that that quicksand forms sometimes on the windward side of the 'ravines'—if you have a strong wind (usually from the west) and see a ravine with a smooth entrance and a 'cliff' on the other side, BEWARE! You can easily sink in up to your knees, a distinctly unsettling experience.
